The Richmond Valley Council has a proud history of hosting and promoting events and the Events Team is here to assist you to make your event a success.
Council recognises that a vibrant and thriving events culture is a valuable asset to our community. The contribution that events bring to the celebration of the region’s cultural diversity, particularly in respect to economic and social development, is highly regarded.
Event Support Scheme
Applications for the Richmond Valley Event Support Scheme 2021/22 open from Friday 5 February and close at 5pm 19 March 2021.
The Event Support Scheme is developed to help showcase local festivals and events. Both cash and in-kind support is available for festivals and events. An in-kind contribution may, for example, include the provision of extra rubbish bins at an event or traffic management support.
Richmond Valley Council has a rich history of supporting arts, cultural, community, sporting and special interest events. Some of the previous recipients of this funding have been the Evans Head Great Eastern Fly-In, Casino Show, Woodburn Riverside Festival, Quota Arts & Craft Fair, Northern Rivers Auto Spectacular, Carnevale Italiano and more.
How to apply?
When applying for the Event Funding Support Scheme, applicants will be required to meet the specific criteria outlined in the guidelines using the application form provided and supply the required supporting documentation.
Applications will be assessed and recommendation will be put forward to the Councillor’s May meeting. Event organisers will be notified in May/June.
It is recommended that all applicants contact the Richmond Valley Council Events Office on 02 6660 0300 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your application prior to submission.
The best method for event support requests is through the Event Funding Scheme. If you have missed the application period, requests for sponsorships are accepted throughout the year. Sponsorship is possible if there is funding available.
To request sponsorship, you will need to write a letter to the General Manager addressing the following items:
- details of the event, date, time and location,
- expected visitation to the event,
- expected visitation from outside of the Richmond Valley,
- a list of sponsorship packages available or in-kind support assistance.
- how you are promoting your event.
Richmond Valley Council will not offer event support for sporting teams or school based functions.
A request for sponsorship can be sent to:

Destination NSW Regional Flagship Events Program (RFEP)
The Regional Flagship Events Program identifies and supports events in regional NSW that have the potential to act as a ‘cornerstone’ or flagship tourism event for their area by attracting overnight visitation and delivering long term benefits to the region. Since it was established in 1997, the Regional Flagship Events Program has supported 271 individual events across regional NSW.
On 6 July 2016, the NSW Government announced that the Regional Flagship Events Program would be expanded to include two additional funds in addition to the existing marketing support fund. The name “Regional Flagship Events Program” will remain as the umbrella title under which the three funds will sit:
- Incubator Event Fund – supports the establishment of new events
- Flagship Event Fund – supports the marketing of emerging events to increase their profile and encourage visitation
- Event Development Fund – supports the strategic development of proven flagship events as drivers of tourism.
