Companion Animal Management Plan

Companion Animal Management Plan

Companion animal ownership is a significant community interest involving the majority of the population. While pet ownership creates many social benefits and is positive in terms of companionship and human health, good companion animal management is a valid community service. The development and implementation of a comprehensive effective local companion animal management plan is essential to enable Richmond Valley Council to provide a balanced and common sense approach to the emotive issue of companion animal management in the Council area.

The goals for the local animal management plan is to:
a) Promote and facilitate responsible pet ownership of cats and dogs; and
b) Promote animal welfare and the benefits of animal companionship.

Information brochures on the rights and responsibilities associated with the keeping of companion animals can be found on the Department of Local Government website within the Companion Animal category.

All enquiries should be directed to Council’s rangers or the Manager of Environmental Health on (02) 6660 0300.
