GENERAL CAMPING AND ACCOMODATION QUESTIONS

Can I stay onsite?
We have both powered and non-powered sites available during events. Camping rates are listed in the Council’s Revenue Policy. The event organiser will coordinate camping during an event.
Richmond Valley Council has 12 free non-powered sites available specifically for general tourism and catering for owners of fully self-contained vehicles. To make a booking for one of these sites, please call 02 6660 0325 or email toursim@richmondvalley.nsw.gov.au. Travellers are encouraged to book between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm.

Are there any showers or toilets on site?
Yes, we have multiple toilets and showers located on-site and available during the event.

HIRING - VENUE/EQUIPMENT/MOBILE FACILITIES

Do I have to hire the entire venue or can I just hire what I need?
We have developed our rates and charges to cater for a range of customers, from casual day riding through to large scale events.
You can select to hire the sections you need right through to the entire venue.
If you would like to run an event at the Showground facility and you’re not sure what to hire, please contact us on 02 6660 0300 for further information.

Do you have additional equipment we can hire?
Yes, we have the following items available for third party hire.
- Portable Amenities blocks, with toilets and showers
- Kitchen Trailer
- BBQ Trailer
We also have local providers if you need additional equipment.

STABLING

How many stables do you have?
For event hire we currently have 40 undercover day stables, with an ability to increase this to 50 by using 10 portable stables. There is additional space which can be used to accommodate portable stables should your event need to hire additional capacity.

Supply of stable bedding
The hirer is to supply all stable bedding and is responsible for the removal and cleaning of the stable/s prior to departure. An onsite bunker is available for your convenience for the disposal of bedding. A cleaning bond will also apply to all bookings.

How long can I stable my horse?
Stabling is available from one day through to two weeks.

Are there any other stabling options?
The Casino Showground and Racecourse has 22 casual open yards suitable for short term individual stabling. The day yards are open to the elements and may not suit all users for overnight stays. Please call to arrange an inspection if required.

Can I bring my dog?
Generally – dogs are not permitted onsite except if they are participating in competition, guide dogs, companion animals (must be able to produce identification), or police K9’s. This is due to the fact the the showgrounds include an active race track with daily horse training activities. If event organisers have permitted dogs to be onsite – they must remain on a leash at all times regardless of how well behaved your dog is.
FOOD, DRINKS, MARKET STALLS

Can I have alcohol at our event?
Yes, you will need to apply for a special event liquor licence well before your planned event. The licence will need to be submitted to Council as proof of approval pre event set up.

Can I have food trucks or trade stalls at my event?
Yes, you can. It is a requirement that all food businesses are registered with council. Amusement rides made be required to submit engineering certificates.

Where can I purchase food from?
Event organisers can hire out the mobile kitchen, canteen or bring in market stalls to cater for competitors and spectators during the competition. Alternatively, the showgrounds are located on the southern town limits of Casino where are range of food options and supermarkets are available.

Can I have a market stall?
Market stall applications will be handled by the event organiser. Large scale amusement rides will need to provide engineer certification. Food stalls will need to be approved to operate in the Richmond Valley. This is a separate application and fee process that needs to be completed through Richmond Valley Council. Please call 02 6660 0300 and ask for a Food Stall permit application.

Do I have to pay a bond for my event?
Yes, we require a bond for all events. The bond will vary based on the type of event.
We also require a cleaning bond for cattle yards and stables. These are outlined in our Rates and Charges.

Yes, please let us know what you need and we will endeavour to accommodate your request. Additional fees may apply.
