IN coming days we will see strong winds, which could bring down trees and powerlines and damage buildings.
For those living in beachfront areas, you know what your highest tides usually are. Advice from the Northern Rivers Emergency Operations Centre is to expect them to be about half a metre higher. Depending on where you live, these high tides may bring water into your homes.
Destructive wind gusts up to 155 km/h may develop over exposed or coastal parts of the Northern Rivers late today or early Friday.
Evans Head residents in low-lying areas are urged to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall from Tropical Cyclone Alfred increases the risk of flooding. Areas of concern include:
- Intersection of Ocean Drive and Bundjalung Road and Ocean Drive near the Co-op may be inundated, isolating South Evans Head.
- Bundjalung Road, South Evans Head, likely to be inundated.
- Paddon Park and Coast Guard Park likely to be inundated.
- McDonald Place, near Evans River, the cenotaph and adjacent car park likely to be inundated.
- Reflections Holiday Park and further into the park along the drainage channel likely to be inundated.
Rising water levels can pose a serious threat to homes, roads and personal safety. Please stay informed by monitoring weather updates and official emergency alerts.
Take precautionary measures now:
- Secure important documents and belongings.
- Avoid driving or walking through flooded areas.
- Be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
If you experience an emergency, contact local authorities immediately.
