The Coraki Playground, located in Coraki Memorial Park near the junction of the Richmond and Wilson Rivers, has been impacted by land movement associated with the Richmond Terrace landslip. Due to concerns about the long term safety and stability of the site, Council is considering relocating the playground.
We are now seeking community feedback on two proposed relocation options to ensure the new location continues to serve local families and visitors while prioritising safety, accessibility, and community needs.
Have your Say
Council invites residents, families, and community groups to share their thoughts on the proposed relocation options. Your feedback will help shape the final decision and ensure the new playground meets community expectations.

Option 1: Richmond Terrace – Opposite Police Station, Adjacent to Boat Ramp
This option proposes relocating the playground across Richmond Terrace, near the Coraki boat ramp and opposite the police station.
Benefits
• Close to existing recreational infrastructure
• Proximity to the current playground location – maintaining community familiarity
• Parking available – convenient access for users
• Minimal impact on neighbouring properties
• Lower risk of vandalism or anti-social behaviour – high visibility location near the police station
• Relatively flat terrain – simplifies construction and maintenance
• Reduced flood exposure – compared to the current or southern site
• Located within the existing park reserve
• Access to public amenities – including restrooms and shaded areas
Challenges
• Potential loss of parking – impact on vehicle access to the boat ramp
• Safety considerations – due to proximity to the road and boat ramp; ensure site is adequately fenced
Option 2: Richmond Terrace – Just South of Existing Location
This option proposes relocating the playground slightly south of its current position, still within Coraki Memorial Park, along Richmond Terrace.
Benefits
• Close to existing recreational infrastructure – such as open space, and seating areas
• Parking available – convenient access for families and visitors
• Minimal impact on nearby residences
• Remains within the established park reserve
• Access to public amenities – including toilets and picnic shelters
• Connected to local footpaths and community areas
• Relatively flat terrain – easier and more cost-effective to build and maintain
Challenges
• Flood-prone area – the site is susceptible to flooding
• Higher construction and maintenance costs – due to the need for durable, water-resistant materials and ongoing refurbishment
