VP262609 – Flood Works Package 3- Upper Cherry Tree Rd Embankment, Design & Construct Piling

Closing Date: Wednesday 29 September 2021 - Closed

Essential Public Asset Restoration (EPAR) Claims have been made for the repair of flood damage to this site under Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

This tender has been called to engage a suitably qualified and experienced contractor to repair flood damage by designing and constructing a sheet pile wall or similar with end protection, replacing culverts, reshaping swales and constructing a flood way.

Upper Cherry Tree Road is an unsealed rural road, with approximate AADT 25 vehicles per day, 4.3% heavy vehicles. The subject site runs alongside Cherry Tree Creek. The road formation width ranges from 4.0m to 3.1m wide of which 3.8m to 2.8m is trafficable.

This site was impacted by a flood event, where eddying at current rock scour protection caused undermining of the embankment and several slips. A Gabion embankment retaining solution was being developed when a subsequent flood event impacted the site which lead to further loss of embankment, making a piled support the most feasible design solution.

Geotechnical investigation of the embankment has been undertaken and used to inform the design package and is provided as Attachment B to inform the piling design. It should be noted that the Geotech report was completed before recent flood damage which worsened the bank erosion. Cherry Tree Creek is a Key Fish Habitat and a DPI Fisheries Permit will eb required for works.
