Richmond Valley Council is launching the Safer Cities: Her Way 2 project in Casino, which engages directly with local women, girls, and gender-diverse people to empower and better understand lived experiences, needs and aspirations for Casino CBD and surrounding public spaces.
The project aims to deliver practical improvements designed to make public spaces and transport hubs feel safer, more welcoming, and vibrant for everyone, especially women, girls, and gender-diverse people when walking and cycling in Casino’s CBD.
Council recognises that women have unique experiences of public spaces, both during the day and after dark. Through this project, Council wants to hear directly from local women, girls and gender-diverse people about what works well, what challenges exist, and what opportunities there are to create places that encourage participation, social connection, and community wellbeing.
How can you get involved?
Richmond Valley Council invites you to share your knowledge, experiences and perspectives of Casino CBD (town centre) and Queen Elizabeth Park precinct by participating in one or both of our community walking workshops (“walkshops”), which will be held on the following dates:
- Wednesday, 28 October 2026 from 6pm-9pm
- Friday, 30 October 2026 from 7.30am-10.30am
Morning tea or a light supper will be provided following each walkshop, offering an opportunity for further discussion and connection.

Council encourages participants to attend both the daytime and nighttime walkshops to enable comparison data to be collected across different times of day. However, attendance at both sessions is not required. Participants are welcome to attend either one or both walkshops, as Council understands that attending both may not be possible for everyone.
If you are unable to attend a walkshop but would still like to share your views and help contribute to the project, please complete our online survey. Alternatively, you are welcome to register for our co-design workshop to be held on Thursday, 12 November 2026.
Council also intends to hold a youth-specific workshop on Thursday, 29 October 2026, with further details to be confirmed.
The insights gained through this engagement will inform the co-design of initiatives intended to improve perceptions of safety, comfort, accessibility, and inclusion in Casino’s public spaces, both during both the day and after dark.
