An embedded battery is permanently built into a device and cannot be easily or safely removed, meaning the battery cannot be recycled separately to device containing it. Embedded batteries are often found in rechargeable items like smart watches, cordless vacuum cleaners, E-bikes, Bluetooth speakers and light-up Toys.

Items with embedded batteries are high risk when being disposed of. These items must never be placed in kerbside bins, public bins or dumped in public places. The Northern Rivers has three Community Recycling Centres, located at Ballina, Kyogle and Lismore, that are able to accept embedded battery items.
Using these locations is the safest method of disposal and is available at NO COST to the public. Other locations are expected to be rolled out over time.
