Activities to support the commencement of the Iron Gates residential development in Evans Head will soon commence.
The Iron Gates development received development consent from the Land and Environment Court in July 2024 and is proceeding in accordance with that approval.
To facilitate the subdivision works and allow construction to begin safely, changed traffic arrangements will be implemented to accommodate line-marking work. This will be followed by the closure of Iron Gates Drive to enable safe access to the development site for construction activities.
Council General Manager Vaughan Macdonald said Council is assessing and certifying the development as it progresses, as it does with all approved residential subdivisions across the Richmond Valley, to ensure compliance with consent conditions.
“Council is liaising with the developer and relevant stakeholders to ensure those impacts are appropriately managed and communicated to the community,” Mr Macdonald said.
“Our focus is on ensuring compliance with environmental protections, infrastructure requirements and all conditions of consent throughout the construction process.”
Mr Macdonald said Council acknowledged that construction activity would cause some disruption and inconvenience, but said these impacts were a necessary part of delivering new residential developments, as was the case with the recent Thyme development in Evans Head, which is now being enjoyed by many local residents.
He said the development would also deliver benefits for the broader community through increased housing supply and economic activity.
“Additional housing is critical to meeting the needs of young families, supporting the continued growth of our region and responding to the housing crisis being faced across Australia,” Mr Macdonald said.
“This development will bring investment, support local businesses and contribute to the economic sustainability of Evans Head, our nearby towns and villages, and the Richmond Valley.
“We ask for the support and patience of local residents as this development gets underway.”
